The Hawaii Winter Baseball Homestay Program is a way for players to experience what life is like in Hawaii. Players will experience the customs and values of the host family as a temporary member of that family. They will have the opportunity to explore the community and get comfortable with the surrounding neighborhood.
There is a fee that the player is obligated to pay to the host family. HWB will determine the amount of the fee. Players will stay in a private bedroom with the use of a bathroom. They will be permitted to use the laundry area to wash their own clothes. Players are expected to keep their bedroom and the bathroom clean. The minimum standards that the host family must provide to the player and the code of conduct that the player must follow will be documented in the homestay agreement.
Other privileges may include the use of the kitchen and other electronic equipment. All use privileges granted to the player by the host should be accepted with gratitude and care.
All of the homestay families must submit an application to Hawaii Winter Baseball. After reviewing the application, each family may be interviewed in their home before they can be accepted as a homestay host. Families that can provide a comfortable, friendly, nurturing and safe environment for players are asked to become hosts. The relationship that develops between a player and the host family can last a lifetime.
