North Shore improved to 12-2 when facing West Oahu this
season as the Honu handled the CaneFires, 10-2, tonight before 923 in
attendance at Waipahu’s
Hans L’Orange Park. The Hawaii Winter Baseball West Division champion Honu
(25-12-1) racked up 13 hits on the evening including a three-run home run off
the bat of Jeramy Laster, and a Dusty Ryan solo blast.
All but one of the North Shore
hitters had at least one base hit, including Mat Gamel who boosted his batting
average to a team-high .328, and drove in two runs.
Sean Walker improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 3.20 as
the Honu starter surrendered an earned run on three hits through 4 1/3 innings
and fanned two.
West Oahu’s Russell
Mitchell moved into a tie for the league lead in doubles with his 11th
two-bagger of the campaign in the loss. Mitchell collected two of his squad’s eight
base knocks on the evening, and his double was the CaneFires’ only extra-base
hit.
Fumikazu Kimura (1-3, 4.23 ERA) took the loss for West Oahu (13-23-2) after allowing three runs on four
hits through four innings.
Both squads return to Hans L’Orange Park tomorrow for the
regular season finale at 6:30 p.m.
