Dave Clark, the manager of the 2006 Hawaii Winter Baseball
champion North Shore Honu squad, has been named the manager of the Houston
Astros’ Triple-A affiliate Round Rock Express. Houston
announced the promotion as part of
the club’s minor league field staff roster for the upcoming 2008 campaign.
Clark, 45, managed the
Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks last season to a 67-73 mark, and will take over a
Round Rock team which managed a 61-81 record in 2007. The Express has recorded
a winning record in six of its eight years of existence, and will be aligned in
the Pacific Coast League for the fourth consecutive year.
Round Rock has made the postseason five times since 2000.
Clark is no stranger to the postseason either as the Major League veteran guided
Corpus Christi
to the Texas League title in 2006—his second of three years spent managing the
club. Clark, a native of Tupelo,
Miss., spent five years as an
instructor, coach and manager in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization after
notching 13 years of service in Major League Baseball with six teams.
Through 905 career games, Clark
amassed a cumulative .264 batting average along with 62 home runs and 284 RBIs.
His most productive season was in 1993 when he hit .271 with 11 homers and 46
RBIs through 110 games with Pittsburgh.
In the fall of 2006, Clark
guided the North Shore Honu to a 18-17 record, and a 5-1 victory over the
Waikiki BeachBoys in the league championship game. This past season, manager
Kevin Bradshaw (Detroit Tigers) led the Honu to its second consecutive league
title, also coming against the BeachBoys.
Clark replaces Jackie
Moore, who was promoted to bench coach for the Astros.
