Shinya Nakayama (North Shore Honu, 2007) of the Orix Buffaloes notched his first win of the season on May 18, pitching six plus innings and allowing two earned runs to the Chiba Lotte Marines.

Nakayama, who led HWB with six wins and posted a 3.12 ERA and 55 strikeouts, was named to Orix’s starting rotation for the 2008 Pacific League opener, but was quickly demoted to the Minors after two bad outings. The left-hander was called up on May 13 as a reliever, but got a chance to start due to a teammate's unexpected injury. Against the Lotte lineup, Nakayama tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and two runs with three strikeouts.

Ken Miyamoto (West Oahu Cane Fires, 2007) of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters, who was second in the HWB league with 0.31 ERA, made his Major League debut on May 1. The second-year left-hander has taken the mound four times out of the bullpen, and is 0-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 3 2/3 innings.
