West Oahu pounded out 16 hits and remained the only
undefeated team left in Hawaii Winter Baseball with a 12-3 victory over the
Waikiki BeachBoys tonight at
Waipahu’s
Hans L’Orange Park.
The CaneFires (3-0) have now scored 30 runs in three games
thus far.
Tyler Henson racked up a game-high five hits in support of
the CaneFires and scored four runs en route to raising his batting average to a
healthy .636. Teammate Miles Durham chipped in three hits including a three-run
home run.
Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds gave Waikiki
fans something to cheer about when the six foot three, 215-pound shortstop
crushed the Ryunosuke Yokoyama delivery well over the trees past the fence in
left field. Frazier’s blast in the home half of the sixth plated Alfredo
Silverio. Frazier doubled down the left field line to score Silverio once again
in the eighth inning, and boosted his batting average to .364 in the process.
West Oahu starter Sean Gleason
(1-0) earned the victory, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing two
hits and a walk. Reliever Andrew Hess picked up the rare three-inning save
after allowing a run through the game’s final three frames.
Waldis Joaquin (0-1) took the loss for Waikiki
after surrendering five runs in 1 2/3 innings. The right hander allowed five
hits and three walks in the outing.
Both teams return to Hans L’Orange Park tomorrow at 7 p.m.
for the second contest in the three-game set.
