North Shore designated hitter Ryan Kalish laced a three-run
home run over the right field fence in the home half of the ninth to give the
Honu a 5-4 victory over West Oahu tonight at Waipahu’s Hans L’Orange Park.
Kalish finished the night 3-4 with four RBIs, and his timely
long ball provided the Honu with its first lead of the night. With the victory,
North Shore improved to 4-6-1, and now stands
1 ½ games behind the CaneFires in Hawaii Winter Baseball’s West Division.
Honu third baseman Kyle Martin hit his league-leading third
home run of the season and finished 3-4 with two runs scored. Teammate Jordan
Parraz of the Houston Astros chipped in three singles.
Greg Burns paced the CaneFires with three hits on the
evening, including a triple to right-center field in the seventh inning. Mark
Hallberg added a solo home run in the fifth frame which gave West
Oahu a 3-0 lead at the time.
North
Shore reliever Matt Meyer
(1-0) notched the victory, holding the CaneFires scoreless in the ninth inning,
and striking out a batter.
West Oahu (6-5) starter
Timothy Bascom did not factor in the decision despite throwing four scoreless
innings through which he allowed four hits and struck out six. Moises Robles
(0-1) took the loss after surrendering Kalish’s home run.
North
Shore opens a three-game
series with the Honolulu Sharks tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Hans L’Orange Park. West Oahu starts a three-game set with the Waikiki
BeachBoys tomorrow at Les Murakami Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30
