Waikiki posted a five-run fourth inning to take its first lead, and held on for the 9-8 victory, and two-game-series sweep over West Oahu this afternoon at Hans L’Orange Park.

In defeat, West Oahu left fielder Cyle Hankerd nailed two two-run home runs and finished the day 3-5 with five RBIs.

After the CaneFires took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, Waikiki brought eight batters to the dish in the home half of the frame, and racked up five runs on three hits including a two-run double from Marquez Smith, and an RBI double off the bat of Todd Frazier.

West Oahu (10-10) got a run back in the fifth frame on Mark Hallberg’s leadoff home run, his second long ball in the year. After Wally Crancer reached on a single, Hankerd launched his second two-run home run of the game, and put West Oahu up, 6-5.

Yonder Alonso put the BeachBoys (9-11) back on top in the home half of the inning, however, with his third home run of the season, a two-run blast to right-center field.

James McOwen of the Seattle Mariners increased the Waikiki lead to 9-6 in the sixth inning with a single up the middle to score Smith and Alfredo Silverio.

Hankerd notched his fifth RBI of the afternoon in the seventh inning on a double to right that plated Miles Durham who had singled to lead off the inning. Durham then drove in Brian Friday on a sacrifice fly to deep center field in the ensuing inning to pull the CaneFires within a run, 9-8.

David Pfeiffer logged the save for Waikiki after shutting down the CaneFires through the final two innings. He preserved the win for reliever Blake Parker (1-1) who allowed a run through 1 1/3 innings after taking over for starter Yuhei Takai.

West Oahu starter Timothy Bascom fell to 1-2 after surrendering seven runs on six hits through 4 1/3 innings.

Both squads have tomorrow off, and return to action Friday.
