West Oahu received a stellar start from Kyle Bloom as the
Pittsburgh Pirates prospect posted five scoreless innings and led the CaneFires
to an 8-2 victory over
Kyle Peter collected a game-high three hits, and Miles
Durham drove in three in support of
Jim Negrych provided the CaneFires with the game’s first run
on a sacrifice fly to score Greg Burns in the third inning.
Cyle Hankerd tripled to lead off the sixth inning for
But Durham afforded West Oahu (11-10) some breathing room with a two-run double in the ninth inning to score Negrych and Peter as the CaneFires went on to add four runs in the frame.
Bloom (2-0) notched the win, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing a hit and striking out eight.
Scott Shaw fell to 1-2 as the Sharks starter surrendered two earned runs on four hits through 2 2/3 innings.
The squads return to Hans L’Orange Park tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the second contest of a three-game set.
