Jeremy Papelbon retired Kyle Peter for the final out of a
seven inning contest, and the Chicago Cubs prospect nailed down his fourth save
as Waikiki downed West Oahu, 3-2, Friday night at
Hans L’Orange Park.
BeachBoys starter Yuhei Takai (2-1) notched the win, holding
the CaneFires scoreless through five innings through which he struck out five
and surrendered two hits.
Waikiki (14-11) broke a
scoreless tie in the sixth inning, bringing across three runs thanks in part to
Roger Kieschnick’s sacrifice fly and a Yuji Onizaki RBI single with two out.
Posey started the rally as the San Francisco Giants prospect led off the frame
with his second single of the evening, and improved his batting average to
.512.
West Oahu (12-13) catcher
Chris Hatcher cut the deficit to 3-2 with a two-run home run to left field that
plated Cyle Hankerd who reached on an error earlier in the seventh inning. Greg
Burns walked to represent the tying run, but Papelbon came on and got Peter to
fly out, and end the threat.
Cliff Flagello (1-1) took the loss as the West
Oahu reliever allowed all three BeachBoys runs in the sixth frame.
The squads return to Hans L’Orange Park tomorrow at 7 p.m.
for the second game of a three-game series.
