Four Honolulu hurlers combined to one-hit North Shore as the
Sharks posted a 2-1 victory tonight at Les Murakami Stadium. The win snapped Honolulu’s seven-game losing streak, and pulled the Sharks
to within a half game of Waikiki’s Hawaii
Winter Baseball East Division lead.
Honolulu
starter Scott Shaw tossed five innings through which he allowed a run and
struck out six, bud did not factor in the decision. Junior Guerra (1-1) notched
the win after chipping in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, and Kaimi Mead
pitched a perfect ninth frame to nail down the victory for his second save of
the season.
The Honu (11-15) took a 1-0 lead in the second frame as
Corey Brown scored from third on Shaw’s two-out wild pitch.
Honolulu
(14-12) rallied in the sixth inning, however, as Honu reliever Jun Ho Ha (0-1) walked
the bases loaded, and Jordan Abruzzo took advantage, ripping an RBI single up
the middle to score Bradley Emaus. Sharks catcher Lars Davis then drove in
Michael Taylor on a sacrifice fly to deep center field to put the purple-clad
squad up 2-1.
Jim Rapoport and Abruzzo each led Honolulu
with two hits apiece, while Brown notched North Shore’s
lone hit in defeat.
The squads return to Les Murakami Stadium tomorrow for the finale
of a three-game set.
