West Oahu took advantage of 14
Caleb Gindl, Chris Hatcher and Mark Hallberg each notched three RBIs in support of the CaneFires as the orange-clad squad improved to 14-14 on the season.
But, the CaneFires increased their lead to 4-2 in the home
half of the third when Cyle Hankerd singled home Gindl and Adam Loewen.
The scoring spree spelled the end of the day for
Ka’aihue brought the Sharks to within four runs of the lead on a two-run home run to left field with two out in the fifth inning. The blast was the fourth of the season for the Atlanta Braves prospect, but it proved futile as the CaneFires put the game out of reach with five more runs.
West Oahu starter Cody Scarpetta (1-2) earned the victory after tossing four effective innings through which he surrendered two runs on three hits to go along with five strikeouts.
The squads return to Hans L’Orange Park tomorrow at 3 p.m. for the finale of a two-game set.
