North Shore took advantage of 11 Waikiki
walks as the Honu posted an 11-1 win over the BeachBoys tonight at Hans
L’Orange Park.
Matt McBride led North
Shore at the plate, going
3-5 with two RBIs, while teammates Kyle Martin and Kurt Mertins each drove in a
pair.
North
Shore (13-16) relied on
the speed of leadoff hitter Ryan Kalish as the green-clad squad posted a 1-0
lead in the first. Kalish drew a walk off BeachBoys starter Andrew Brackman,
stole second an third, and came home on a McBride sacrifice fly.
The Honu added two more runs in the second as Sung Woo Jang
and Dustin Realini came around to score on a double from Mertins.
Waikiki (16-13) brought a
run across in the home half of the third as Tommy Giles doubled, and came home
on an Austin Romine single up the middle. The BeachBoys then loaded the bases
as Yonder Alonso walked, but North
Shore starter Jason Godin
got Alfredo Silverio to ground out to end the inning.
Martin put the Honu up 5-1 in the fourth frame with a
two-run single that scored Jordan Parraz and Realini. McBride, Kenji Sato and
Parraz each added RBI singles, and Sung Woo Jang drew a bases-loaded walk to
give North Shore a commanding 9-1 advantage.
Tony Thomas Jr. led Waikiki
on offense with two hits, including a double.
Godin (3-1) notched the victory thanks to five innings of
one-run ball through which he scattered four hits and struck out five.
Brackman fell to 3-4 after allowing seven runs on three hits
through 3 1/3 innings. The New York Yankees prospect walked seven batters while
striking out six, and six of those runners that reached on free passes
eventually came around to score.
Both squads have a scheduled day off tomorrow, and return to
action Friday.
