Sharks Take See-Saw Affair With CaneFires

The Honolulu Sharks almost let a two-run, ninth inning lead slip away, but Honolulu hurler Anthony Claggett got Jeff Bianchi to ground into a double play to end the game as the Sharks held on to win 8-7 over the West Oahu CaneFires tonight in a Hawaii Winter Baseball game at Hans L’Orange Park.

The Sharks (4-5) took an 8-6 lead into the ninth inning as Claggett tried to close out the game and earn his first HWB victory. But, thanks to two Honolulu errors and a Chad Tracy single, the CaneFires posted runners at first and third base with one out. Claggett (1-1), however, got Bianchi to ground into the 5-4-3 twin killing, and preserved the victory for his squad.

Argenis Diaz buoyed the Sharks offense, going 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Teammate Tyler flowers added a three-run homer in the third frame to help give Honolulu its first lead of the game.

In defeat, Ryan Rogowski ripped a three-run homer in the third inning, doubled, and drove in four runs for West Oahu (2-7-1)

Honolulu comes back to Hans L’Orange tomorrow to take on the Waikiki BeachBoys at 6:30 p.m. The CaneFires face the North Shore Honu, also at Hans L’Orange, at noon.
