The North Shore Honu downed the Waikiki BeachBoys, 8-1, in a
Hawaii Winter Baseball game played before 987 in attendance at
Jamie Romak got the Honu on the board in bottom of the first
inning with a bases-clearing, three-run double with two out to put
Stephen Chapman padded North Shore’s lead in the second frame with a two-run single, and Lou Santangelo added an RBI single to push the Honu further ahead, 6-0.
The BeachBoys (8-9) got on the board in the fifth inning
when catcher Sean McCraw grounded out to second base, and plated Jermaine
Mitchell. Antoan Richardson led
Honu (11-6) starter Brett Sinkbeil (2-0, 1.13 ERA) allowed an unearned run on three hits in five innings on the bump to earn the win. Sean Walker picked up his first save of the campaign after tossing the game’s final three innings without allowing a hit or run, and striking out four.
Josh Sullivan (0-2, 6.75 ERA) took the loss after allowing six runs, three of which were earned, on five hits in three innings.
Both teams return to Francis Wong Stadium for the second game of the series with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
