Waikiki pulled to within 1 ½ games of the Hawaii Winter
Baseball’s East Division leader Honolulu with a 5-3 victory over the Sharks
this afternoon in a seven-inning contest at Waipahu’s Hans L’Orange Park. The
BeachBoys (10-12) took two of three games from
BeachBoy hurler Kyohei Muranaka (1-0, 2.11 ERA) was impressive in his first start of the HWB campaign, striking out five in five innings while allowing three runs on six hits. Shane Lindsay picked up his first save of the season after finishing out the game’s final two frames without allowing a run, and the Aussie lowered his ERA to 10.00.
Lucas Duda doubled and drove in two runs, while Michael
Wilson doubled and scored two runs in support of the BeachBoys. Austin Jackson
hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third inning, to
buoy the Sharks. Miguel Abreu and Argenis Diaz each chipped in two hits for
Katsuyuki Aihara (7.88 ERA) fell to 0-1 after allowing two runs on three hits in an inning on the hill.
The BeachBoys return to Hans L’Orange Park tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. to open a three-game series with the West Oahu CaneFires. The Sharks tangle with the North Shore Honu in the opener of a three-game set, also at Hans L’Orange Park, with the first pitch scheduled for noon tomorrow.
