The North Shore Honu pounded 14 hits en route to an 8-3,
wire-to-wire victory over the Honolulu Sharks in a matinee matchup this
afternoon at Waipahu’s
Hans L’Orange Park. The Honu improved to a league-best 17-7 mark thanks in part
to the offensive efforts of Stephen Chapman and Mat Gamel, who each notched
three hits.
Gamel also launched his fifth home run of the HWB campaign,
scored twice and drove in three runs for North Shore.
Shintaro Yoshida and Brad Corley each racked up two RBIs in support of Honu
starter Bud Norris (2-0, 3.38 ERA) who earned the victory thanks to four strong
innings in which he allowed one run on two hits and struck out four.
Kyler Burke doubled twice and picked up the lone RBI for Honolulu (12-11-1). Sharks
starter Jimmy James fell to 1-2 and saw his ERA jump to 3.68 after allowing three
runs on six hits in five innings.
Both squads return to Hans L’Orange Park tomorrow at noon
for the rubber match of the three-game series.
