Tyler Flowers and Jason Place each slammed three-run home
runs to power the Honolulu Sharks over the West Oahu CaneFires, 9-5, at Hilo’s Francis Wong
Stadium tonight. West Oahu (8-18-1) held a 5-0 lead through three innings
thanks in part to Ian Gac’s league-leading seventh home run of the campaign,
but Honolulu (13-14-1)
scored four, three and two runs in the next three frames, respectively, to take
the lead for good.
Ryohei Tanaka (4-0, 2.93 ERA) notched the win despite
allowing five runs on five hits through six innings. Kyler Burke and Miguel
Abreu each chipped in three base knocks to bolster the Sharks’ offensive
attack.
West Oahu reliever Marco
Gonzalez fell to 0-2 after allowing five runs, two of which were earned, in two
frames out of the bullpen. Russell Mitchell drove in three runs in defeat,
while teammate K.C. Herren led his squad with two hits.
The two teams return to Francis Wong Stadium tomorrow at
6:30 p.m. for the second of a three-game set in Hilo.
