Thanks to the expansion of team rosters to 40, the number of 2006 HWB alumni to see major league action has been growing, seemingly by the day. Here's a quick look at those currently on major league rosters (and if you know of/see more in action please let me know!).

-Rick VandenHurk (Florida Marlins, Starting Pitcher)
-Nate Schierholtz (San Francisco Giants, Outfielder)
-Joe Thatcher (San Diego Padres, Relief Pitcher)
-Joba Chamberlain (New York Yankees, Relief Pitcher)
-Ian Kennedy (New York Yankees, Starting Pitcher)
-Nyjer Morgan (Pittsburgh Pirates, Outfielder)
-Jeff Clement (Seattle Mariners, Catcher)

I believe Brian Bixler will get a shot soon with the Pirates as well...

I think Bix would have got the call already, Indianapolis Indians are done..... He has good speed for a white boy :) In another few years you are going to be a busy guy if you try to keep track of all the alumn in the show. When do the rosters get released Kyle?

Rosters should be out by next week...the teams are finishing up their decisions and once we have things finalized, I'll post them. I can tell you that we have a lot of highly-rated prospects slated to come, so it should be another great year. Did you see Joba got the win today?

I didn't catch Joba, but I'll try to catch the rerun on YES network. Any returnees? I thought some of the Hawaiian kids might come back.

It looks like the A's are sending Lansford to HWB according to baseball america.....The league may need to add some teams next year (or this year) as more clubs jump on the bandwagon!

I'm really encouraged by the talent on the rosters last season. I hope we'll see some ringers again this season.

I agree Phil, and I hope the people that are putting stuff from the players on ebay are identified this year and cut off by the players. They kids were all great about signing and to see people selling on ebay really stinks. I hope the players only sign to a specific person to help cut down on the BS. I got some nice things last year and hope to do so again this year.

Kyle, I'm curious as to why the league hasn't releasead some names yet. If the league wants to sell some tickets, they should release the names as soon as possible in order to generate some buzz on milb.com, baseballamerica, scout.com, ect. Just a thought, plus I'm anxious to see who is coming.

Stay tuned Lance, I'll start releasing info tomorrow, and that will get the ball rolling. It's taken longer than I had hoped because we've had to go back and forth with teams to finalize everything. Thanks for your patience, Kyle

I read in the Advertiser that Wieters will be playing this season. Great news! I'm also glad to see that the Mets will be participating again. M-E-T-S! Mets, Mets, Mets!

Phil, yes The Advertiser got the ball rolling, I'm getting together a release on Wieters as we speak and will post that on the site ASAP. And yes, the Mets are scheduled to send seven players as of today, so it'll be interesting to see them in action.

Please tell me that Fernando Martinez is one of them. I think he might be a little above this level- I noticed a lot of guys who played in this league last season have been sent to the Arizona Fall league. Is that the natural progression?

  12. Kyle said on 09/13/2007:
Sorry Phil, but no Martinez. Yes, the hope is that guys will play in HWB, and then will progress to the level where either they are called up to the majors the next year, or show so much promise that teams send them to Arizona as the "one step away" from the bigs players. It's tough to predict because it's an inexact science, but it's fun to see guys like VandenHurk and Chamberlain who went from pro ball newbies here to MLB regulars in less than a year.

Martinez didn't really play the second half of the season this year due to injury. Thanks for the new info Kyle, I've been checking regularly.
